Earning The Crown - Ms. Nevada Regency International 2020

Winning a state title is a surreal moment. When they put that crown on my head and I did my celebratory walk, all I could think was that I still could NOT believe it. If you would have told me 30 days before, that I would not only be competing in a state pageant but WINNING one, I would not have believed you. Let me tell you how I got here.

A few years ago, I did a little soul searching and found that for me to really be happy I needed to be spending my time in service to my community and making a positive impact on someone else's life even if that just meant an extra smile in their day. I started doing some googling to see what my options were and eventually came upon a state pageant I thought was the right fit for me! So, I went around campaigning and raising funds to get the coaching I needed and compete. Pageant week came around and I lost big time! I wasn't fortunate enough to place in that pageant at all, but I did win Best In Evening Gown so I was really proud of that. I thought my pageant days were over because I was already turning 26 and didn't think pageantry existed outside of the Miss age range.
2016 Competition

A little time went by and I started focusing on how I could move forward making an impact in my community by myself.  I decided to double down on my blog and goals of building my own travel agency that would one day be able to sponsor families in need to all-expense-paid vacations. I gave birth to my son, who is now 2 years old, and thought my dreams of holding a crown, title and sash were long gone.

The thing about dreams is that they always come right back around. A few weeks before the Nevada Regency International Pageant, our Director Crystal reached out and asked if I'd be interested in competing. I'd been asked to compete before, but managing motherhood seemed too big of a task to add any extra responsibilities. This time, I took a minute to think about it and decided that I was FULLY capable of being an amazing mother while continuing to build my personal brand AND compete in this pageant. So I took the leap and scrambled to get everything together to impress the judges.

Interviews took place on February 15th at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. I was surprisingly calm even though I didn't have a ton of time to prepare. I had an amazing coach the first time I ever chose to compete in a pageant, and her guidance was priceless. I checked back over all the notes I took from our old coaching sessions about being myself, honest and true while always remaining professional and looking my best and went into interviews ready to win the judges over. The interview was quick, but I remember talking a lot about being a mother, a bit about my time in the US Navy, and how I wanted to use the title to inspire young girls to chase fearlessly after their dreams. I also want to remind women that motherhood doesn't have to be the last step of our journey and that we are allowed and capable of being amazing mothers, entrepreneurs, and Beauty Queens all at the same time regardless of our current circumstances.

We hit the stage on February 16th at El Palacio Del Sol in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was SO happy I was able to supply my own Evening Gown and Fashion Wear on such short notice! I was even able to do my own hair and makeup. Everything just came together perfectly for me and I was really excited to hit the stage! This was my first time really chatting with my pageant sisters and my first time ever competing with girls so young. It was so inspiring to hear about the young girls and other women's accomplishments leading up to this pageant. It was very humbling to be included in a group with such phenomenal Girl Power.

Before announcing the winner, we had an hour to eat from a FULL-SERVICE buffet and mix and mingle with our friends, family and the rest of the audience. I have never heard of a pageant system having such a welcoming environment or feeding the entire audience while the judges' votes were tallied. It was incredible. That hour went by quicker than ever. Before I knew it, we were back on stage handing out awards and announcing winners. I received Most Photogenic in my category! And then, they called all the Ms. and Mrs. contestants to the middle of our stage. The Mrs. was crowned and I was ready to go backstage and pack up my things after congratulating all of the beautifully crowned Queens...but then my number was called and I was announced as Ms. Nevada Regency International 2020! I didn't realize there would be a Mrs. AND a Ms. winner!! The Regency International Pageant has enough titles that every generation and marital status is able to compete for their own title from Tiny Miss to Classic Regency. I am pretty sure I screamed, I know I cried and I soaked up every moment of that celebratory walk.

I am so pleased, honored, and humbled to have the opportunity to work in my community as Ms. Nevada Regency International but my journey isn't over yet. July 29th-August 1 I have the Regency International pageant and I'll need your help. To keep myself competitive and in the running for the crown, I will need to spend the next year extremely visible in our community, and acquire sponsors, and donations from anyone who would like to see me succeed. If you or someone you know would like to work with me through an appearance, speaking engagement, volunteering or sponsorship please reach out to me personally via msnvregencyint@nikkionvegas.com or give me a call at (702)623-9771.

Throw Back: That one time I competed in a pageant

Once upon a time, what seems like a long time ago I decided I wanted to be a beauty queen. It was definitely an experience I will never forget and I finally have the chance to tell you all about it! I've always known that I wanted to help people in some way, and one day it dawned on me if I had a crown that would definitely give me a much louder voice to speak on issues I thought were important. So, I went searching for what I thought was the best pageant for me and I landed on Miss Nevada USA 2016. The only thing I knew about pageants at this point was from the Miss Congeniality movie and what I heard about from my cousin's social media pages. So from that, I thought it was going to be a breeze...PSYCH! It was probably the most grueling process of self-discovery I've ever put myself through. My first step was figuring out how much all of this was going to cost. For me, it was a ridiculous amount that I just wasn't going to be able to make at my day job in...

This Weekends Top Las Vegas Hotel: November 22 - 24

This week was no contest between most searched hotels with my team. I'm not sure if it's because of Thanksgiving or what, but the clear winner this weekend is The Venetian! This is a local favorite for their FREE PARKING! That means you can have your friends come to visit you in your suite and not worry about them having to pay a fee for staying for over an hour. The Venetian Luxury Resort in Las Vegas was our most booked, and honestly, I am not surprised. The property is beautiful, The Grand Canal that connects the Venetian to the Palazzo is incredible with all the food options, dessert stops and of course shopping. Not to mention the beautiful Grand Canal and Gondola ride that flows through the center. Some of my favorite eats here are LAVO for their party style brunch, Delmonico steakhouse for Dinner, and Carlo's Bakery (the Cake Boss) for dessert. For some fun, TAO is located a short walk from the suites through the Grand Canal, and since it's stil...

Mask Monday: Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask

It is that wonderful time again where my skin is acting all the way out of control. This time it could be my horrible quarantine diet, stress, hormones, my 2-year-old touching God knows what then rubbing my face...the list of possibilities is endless. To combat that I'm going in the Mix, Mask & Hydrate 6 piece kit from Peter Thomas Roth that we got at an incredible value price. Today, I am tapping into the Cucumber Gel Mask. It is an Extreme Detoxifying Hydration mask that is instantly refreshing (I keep mine in the refrigerator), cooling, and a moisturizing calming gel that helps soothe dry irritated skin. I've used this mask before, and know that it works wonders on my sometimes overly sensitive skin combination skin. I feel like my skin issues are coming from clogged pores and stress, so the detoxifying bit will really help me get to the smooth skin I just know exists underneath all this drama. So, to start off I like to use a gentle cleanser to get any make...

Beauty Moment: Belle Beauty 'Shero - Shadow Stick'

Shadow sticks are starting to become a necessity in my makeup go-bag. Most days when I'm getting ready something happens and I'm left with 1/2 the time I need to finish my makeup, or even worse I have to finish in the car when I get there! For those kinds of moments, I LOVE shadow sticks. This Shadow Stick from Belle Beauty by Kim Gravel in Pink Champagne is the latest edition to my go-bag. We got this one in a kit from QVC, and I'm sure you can order directly from the Belle Beauty website . I am loving this right now because it's such a quick and easy way to level up my look by adding that shimmer I love to my lid and the easy to use stick means I can level up anywhere at any time. It has a really easy to apply soft consistency that you can just blend with your finger or go in with brushes if you feel the need. It has a really simple twist up top so you'll never need a sharpener, and I know they say to never do this, but I twisted it all the way to see...

Keep Your Digital Information Safe in the Time of Quarantine

If you didn't know me in real life, you probably don't know that I've spent about a decade in the Information Technology field, and a majority of that time working in Information Security. While we are all social distancing and staying inside, we are turning to the internet more than before to fulfill our social needs, make bulk purchases, learn new things and just kill boredom. With all of us spending so much extra time on the internet from our personal devices, let's take a quick minute to brush up on the safety of your Personally Identifiable Information (PII), and how to keep your connection as secure as you can. Here's a visual before we get right into it. Let's start with passwords. When I was actively supporting end users, I've seen horrifying practices like using "password" as a password and so many more. It is best to use a different password for every different login with an 8 character minimum using upper case, lower case, number...

Safety 101: 5 Tips for Solo Travel to Las Vegas

Getting your whole crew together to come party with you in Vegas can be a challenge! Everyone has a reason to miss out on this trip, whether it's budget, timing, childcare, etc. Sometimes, you have to just catch a flight and take a vacation by yourself! This can be the best time you've ever had, but you have more safety concerns when you're solo than when you're with a crew. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind on your next solo outing in Las Vegas. Stay In Public Areas Las Vegas is among the most popular tourist destinations in America. We do everything we can to make sure your stay is safe, and you feel secure. You can't get into the hotel elevators at most resorts unless you have a room key, Las Vegas Blvd (the Strip) and the Fremont Street Experience are lined with on-duty police officers, and each hotel has their own trained security staff ready to aid any situation (even labor!). Some of our best venues are off the strip. For this, I recommend taking...

Encore Beach Club: 28 Days To Pool Season Finale

Pool Season 2019 has officially started, and I spent the first-day basking in the sun at Encore Beach Club. I got myself bikini ready by following my 28 Days to Pool Season Workout Program that you can follow too! Here is a bit of a rundown on Encore Beach Club and how I feel about it. Encore is a BEAUTIFUL property by itself. I love to have my friends stay here as they will NEVER be disappointed with the staff, their service, or their stay. I have not heard a single complaint ever from them on anything here. Encore Beach Club is no different. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. Security is tight to get through, they do a full bag search and metal detector scan and have a long list of items that are not allowed in...like selfie sticks...I had to toss mine out... and even though I had to throw something away I still thought the staff handled me with kindness and that is a HUGE DEAL to me. The lines will be long, but they are easy to figure out and the sta...
