Road Trippin & Travel Tips

On The Road Again...

Today we just had to take a minute and get the hell outta Dodge(Vegas) and see some nature! We decided to head over to our neighbor state, Arizona, and take a gander at the Colorado River from far...far away.

I used to HATE road trips when I was younger. I think it started with a bus ride from New Mexico, up to Washington state and I was officially over road travel. But, now that I spend so much time at home with my little, it's SO nice to get out of the house and go ANYWHERE, even if that means us in the back seat for a while.

Vegas through to Boulder City to Willow Beach was not a long drive at all and scenic AF. If you are heading this way (for lottery tickets for example) you gotta stop at Chilly Jilly's in Boulder City. They have THE BEST chicken!! The steak fries are bomb, the dole whip was bomb...they just rock as a whole and I fully recommend checking them out on the way there or back to town. Look for the super dope vintage Red Truck and a cute mini convertible out front advertising for the Patio next door.

We made it out to one of the free scenic spots and got to take in the view and enjoy the fresh air. Just around the corner from where we were, you could actually enter the Marina and get a much better view. You can get a daily pass for $25, or an annual pass for $45.

Travel Tips:

Even though this was just a short trip up the road, you always have to be prepared! Here's what we did to make sure we were good to go:

For Us:

For Baby:

  • FULLY LOADED DIAPER BAG
    • 2x the amount of diapers you'd usually use in this amount of time.
    • Baby safe sanitizer
    • ALL of the Toys/Books
    • Wipes
    • 3 multi functional blankets
    • 2 drool cloths + the drool bib he had on
    • Sun Screen
    • A onsie (or 2)
    • Pacifiers
    • Thermometer
    • Infant Tylenol
    • Rash Cream
    • Changing pad/table covers (we use a changing pad + a puppy pad because I'm extra)
  • BREASTMILK/FORMULA STORAGE + MANUAL PUMP + EXTRA BOTTLE & NIPPLE
  • WHITE NOISE APP (that doesn't need service to function)
  • MULTIPLE WINDOW SHIELDS TO BLOCK SUN
My Mom is the real MVP and drove the entire way so I could kick it in the back with my little honey buns. We were able to make it through this short trip happily with just this! Once I realized we didn't have any cell service, and my iHeartRadio app is what was keeping my son content we ALMOST lost. Luckily I have a white noise app on his phone that doesn't need cell service that will help soothe him. A camera other than our cell phones is what I didn't bring, but I wish we had!

Streaming: Disney and Pixar's 'Onward'

Disney+ dropped some blessings for us during this quarantine and I am so grateful! Since Social Distancing made it hard for us to safely go see 'Onward' in theatres when it came out last month, Disney and Pixar gave us a quarantine present and dropped it for us to stream from home WAY earlier than expected on Disney+! With 50 Million or more of us holding on tightly to our Disney+ subscriptions, let's all watch this one with or without the kids. IMDB “While we’re looking forward to audiences enjoying our films on the big screen again soon, given the current circumstances, we are pleased to release this fun, adventurous film to digital platforms early for audiences to enjoy from the comfort of their homes,” said Dan Scanlon (Director, “Onward”) and Kori Rae (Producer, “Onward”).¹ We've been socially distancing in my household for a bit longer than nationally directed, so we weren't able to see this in theaters. I play a cute Disney game with my son, ...

Vegas Vacation: June Travel Essentials *Pool Season Guide Men*

Suns out, guns out! Summer in Vegas is JUST as much for all the fellas out there as it is for the women. Here's my list of travel essentials that I keep on hand and that my travel clients have been requesting so that you can have a smoother trip (or stay if you're a local). When you are packing your pool bag for any occasion here is what you need to keep the day on a high note. Pool Day Essentials: A day out in the sun is one of the best ways to spend your Vegas Vacation! Whether that's at the pool club, your hotel pool, or your own backyard, here are my favorite must have's for every pool day. 🌟One thing I know about you guys is you do NOT want to carry a bag at all. Even though it is SO fashionable for you to have a messenger bag or even a backpack. 👀 Whatever, I'm not judging you, but I do want you to be able to keep track of all your things while still being able to hop in the pool and live your best life. The best solution is a MOSTLY waterproof ...

BLACK LIVES MATTER

Someone asked me how I was doing, and that was the first time I took a moment to reflect on how I was actually feeling outside of complete outrage.  I'm tired. I'm in anguish. I'm completely depleted. I'm overwhelmed and grieving. In a revolving state of being overtaken by incredible sadness to unbeleivably angry. I'm not ok. I wish things were better. https://t.co/lYhiqi7cML — Nikki On Vegas (@NikkiOnVegas) June 5, 2020 It's unbelievable to me that Black lives are still being lost at the hands that are meant to protect and serve us, without cause, and in most cases without punishment deserving of the crime. Then those officers are protected and shielded from any punishment by the same institution that systematically oppresses Black people. The duty to Protect and Serve that  should  be upheld by all officers does not count when it comes to Black people. The unjust murders of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Philando Castile, Tamir Rice, Freddie Gray, and now Georg...

Throw Back: That one time I competed in a pageant

Once upon a time, what seems like a long time ago I decided I wanted to be a beauty queen. It was definitely an experience I will never forget and I finally have the chance to tell you all about it! I've always known that I wanted to help people in some way, and one day it dawned on me if I had a crown that would definitely give me a much louder voice to speak on issues I thought were important. So, I went searching for what I thought was the best pageant for me and I landed on Miss Nevada USA 2016. The only thing I knew about pageants at this point was from the Miss Congeniality movie and what I heard about from my cousin's social media pages. So from that, I thought it was going to be a breeze...PSYCH! It was probably the most grueling process of self-discovery I've ever put myself through. My first step was figuring out how much all of this was going to cost. For me, it was a ridiculous amount that I just wasn't going to be able to make at my day job in...

Locals I Love: Bougie Girl Vegas

Welcome back to the second edition of the Locals I Love series! This week I am telling you all about one of my new favorite brands to keep up with and adorn myself with, the Wallet Friendly Luxury of Bougie Girl Vegas . Bougie Girl Vegas is an online accessory boutique that I came across while looking for a local place to get my jewelry from instead of always shopping overseas for a discount, or going into a mass retailer that doesn't actually care about me and the look I'd like to portray with their jewelry. As soon as I saw her inventory, I knew this brand was one I was definitely down to rock with. I ordered this tacos necklace so fast yall! It didn't even take a second thought, and I've been here for the brand ever since. For me, it matters so much more what the person who runs the business is about than anything else, and just recently I got the opportunity to meet the beautiful young woman who runs the business. Cortney is a Las Vegas local t...

Keep Your Digital Information Safe in the Time of Quarantine

If you didn't know me in real life, you probably don't know that I've spent about a decade in the Information Technology field, and a majority of that time working in Information Security. While we are all social distancing and staying inside, we are turning to the internet more than before to fulfill our social needs, make bulk purchases, learn new things and just kill boredom. With all of us spending so much extra time on the internet from our personal devices, let's take a quick minute to brush up on the safety of your Personally Identifiable Information (PII), and how to keep your connection as secure as you can. Here's a visual before we get right into it. Let's start with passwords. When I was actively supporting end users, I've seen horrifying practices like using "password" as a password and so many more. It is best to use a different password for every different login with an 8 character minimum using upper case, lower case, number...

Vegas Bound: Halloween Week 2019

I love every reason to let my inner spook out, so the ENTIRE month of October is an all-out celebration for me! If you're here, you must be getting ready to spend your Halloween in Las Vegas and I could NOT be more excited for you. Whether you are a Las Vegas Local, or here for the weekend, Las Vegas is one of the most amazing places in the world for entertainment, and to take a nice relaxing (or turnt) vacation. As much as Vegas has the reputation to be an Adults only trip, we have tons of spooktacular events for the whole family to enjoy. If you are heading to Las Vegas to celebrate Halloween, check out the hotel rooms available from my team. We can get rates up to 30% lower than nationally advertised rates all year round, even on national holidays. And when you book with me, you get the option of having me personally help you plan out your vacation specifics and help to manage any last-minute emergencies. A few tips if you are coming through for the costume contests. V...

Now Streaming: 'Legacies' on Netflix Seasons 1 and 2

I love a good supernatural drama series. I was all in on the 'Vampire Diaries' for a while, and when the 'Originals' came in with what felt like a more "grown-up" storyline from the beginning, I was instantly HOOKED! It had everything I needed in a supernatural drama, but when that ended I was left in a show hole. How do you even follow up on that epic storyline, but thank the bright minds at CW they made it happen with 'Legacies'. With 'Legacies', we are tuning in to the life of Hope Mikaelson after the loss of her parents at The Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted ran by Alaric Saltzman who is firmly seated in our hearts from 'Vampire Diaries'. Alaric is the headmaster of the Salvatore School and is looking after his twin daughters who are the last living members of the Gemini Coven. This is exactly the drama series I needed to check into during this quarantine. The Salvatore School is home to the witch, werewolf and vampire ...

The Women Of Las Vegas: With Love Reiki from Sheila

Meet Sheila Sclafani-Cook As a Usui/Holy Fire® III, Karuna Reiki®Master, and a Seraphim Blueprint practitioner, Sheila Sclafani-Cook is a local treasure. Her path through Spirituality has connected her with Spirit and she is guided to support others on the healing path through meditations, classes, Reiki sessions or bringing others to the way of Reiki by teaching Reiki to them. With Love Reiki and Healing was founded to create a place where people can come to allow their soul to breathe. Through this time of Social Distancing, I've been getting my much-needed meditations and Reiki healing from her Youtube channel where we can all tune in at no charge and get regularly updated Reiki distance healing. I first met Sheila through one of my Mom's meditations at Enchanted Forest, and when I was going through a really confusing time in my life I went to her to get a Reiki session. To say it was amazing is an understatement! It was exactly what I needed to get m...

What to expect in July 2020: Las Vegas After Lock Down

Vegas is OPEN and ready to serve up your next vacation or staycation the way Only Vegas knows how. We are living in a much different time now, so here's what we can expect for a trip to Las Vegas in July. **July 11 Update: Bars, Pubs, etc (see graphic) that do not serve food have all been ordered to close.  First things first, masks are required in all public spaces through the state of Nevada per our latest directive ( see specifics here ). You will have to wear a mask when you are outside of your hotel room in all public spaces. You do not have to wear a mask when doing physical activity like working out, but you will need to wear one on the way to the gym and back. Same with the pool, you do not have to wear one while in the pool, but a mask is required everywhere else including the pool deck.
