Mom Life in Quarantine: Toddler Craft Time - Hidden Messages Water Coloring


Social Distancing and Quarantine with my wonderful 2-year-old has been an experience so far! I am a stay at home mom, so having him home with me every day is nothing new, but what IS new is how quickly he's growing, learning and developing new skills. Almost faster than I can keep up. What entertained him all day pre quarantine now won't hold his attention for more than 10 minutes. So I've got to get more creative in the ways that I keep HIM creative. Here's where we are today: Hidden messages to be revealed while water coloring!

So, to start we had to work with what we had:

  • The back of his coloring pages he'd already scribbled to his enjoyment
  • White Crayon
  • Cups/bowls
  • Water
  • Food Coloring/watercolors
  • A paintbrush 

Fresh paper is hard to come by in our household, so we are making it work with some recycled paper. I took the white crayon and wrote his name, drew some shapes I know he would recognize, the uppercase and lowercase letters I want to focus on today and tried to draw some of his favorite characters freehand but I'm no artist.

Then I mixed up some food coloring in some cups I had handy. I think watercolors would have worked here just fine, or maybe even Kool-aid, but regular paint is probably too thick. Once mixed, I set him up a space to work his creativity.

He eventually decided to just pour the color water all over the place and abandon the paintbrushes altogether and I still got these wonderful keepsakes to save as one of his first art projects once they dried. This is a fun project for toddlers his age and maybe older to get them excited about creating something and recognizing things like shapes, letters, and the fun surprise of uncovering what looked like a blank paper but turned out to be something else. I think this would be fun with different painting tools too like maybe sponges, rollers, or a dripping tool I was thinking like a turkey baster or a small water gun.

MTV Movie Awards 2019: Vegas Faves and Looks I Love

Any MTV Awards show has such a huge place in my heart! I just remember being young and thinking how exciting it was to watch all my favorite celebrities getting trophies. Cruising Through the Pacific - Let's Go Sailing Part II

We've decided to make this a yearly thing! And, if I have it my way, we'll be doing it twice a year soon! I am SO IN LOVE with the ease of taking a cruise! Let's Go Sailing: Cruising With a Toddler

Cruising with Carnival has become a yearly thing for my mom and I, and this year we extended the tradition a generation by bringing my 1-year-old with us. We went for a 4 day, Halloween cruise from Long Beach with 2 stops - Catalina Island and Ensenada, Baja California. Here's a rundown on going on a cruise with a toddler! First off, we drove from Las Vegas all the way to the Long Beach Terminal so the first leg of our trip was a 4+ hour car ride. I made sure we were fully stocked for the ride over so we wouldn't have to make too many stops and make the ride any longer. Vegas Bound: Christmas In Vegas 2019

Christmas in Las Vegas is really SUCH a magical thing. The Las Vegas strip sprinkles a little bit of holiday magic all over EVERYTHING, and it is so beautiful! All of our usual attractions, like the Bellagio Fountain bring the Christmas cheer with holiday music playing this season. Kid Friendly Vegas: Kangamoo

I have a one-year-old! Life is BANANAS! To celebrate my young King's first birthday, we took him to Kangamoo indoor playground. Here's how it went. This place is HUGE. I was shook once I walked in and tried to find the bathroom through what felt like miles of padded kid-wonderland. I didn't do too much exploring of the big kid area, and I made it a point not to go when they were having a special event but according to their facebook page, this place is lit! Every Thursday 4:30-5:30 they have a character come by and play around with the kids (perfect photo op), Wednesday is arts and crafts day 10AM-12, Balloon Animals and face paint every Friday 2-4, and Musical Story Time on Tuesday 10AM-12. All other times Mon - Fri 9am-7pm and Sat-Sun 9AM-5PM is open play time. Now, back to my nugget. I think he had a BLAST! Disney+ Watchlist: Throw It Back to Gummi Bears!

I just hit my own personal Disney+ nostalgic gold mine with our current binge favorite, Gummi Bears! I don't have any idea how old I was when I watched this, and I didn't remember a single thing from the episodes we watched before...but I was SURE singing the theme song at the top of my lungs the second it started! Disney has given me such a beautiful moment to share my childhood with my son! Our usual TV time consists of me putting on something child-friendly, pulling out my laptop and getting back to work while shouting out whatever prompt the characters are looking for.
